Turn the physical item itself into the product ID, and link it to digital records

Emerging use case

A Digital Product Passport (DPP) records and publishes a product's lifecycle information electronically. The product-specific ID it calls for can be the item's own surface pattern rather than a tag or an engraving. This page introduces how GAZIRU.z is used when the physical item itself carries the ID.

Typical challenges

We want to prepare for the DPP but don't know what to link or how / No way to confirm that an item at a remote site is the exact one that was registered

With GAZIRU

  • Use tagless individual identification for the "product-specific ID" the DPP requires — the ID can be read from the item alone
  • Record lifecycle information, from manufacture to disposal, linked to the physical item
  • Even for ownership transfers or remote asset checks, a single image is enough to confirm whether it is that exact item

The DPP (Digital Product Passport) is a scheme under the EU's ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) for recording and disclosing product life-cycle information electronically; it is being made mandatory in stages by product category
